Cost Estimator - Manufacturing

 

  • Responsible for providing detailed, accurate machining, assembly & fabrication cost estimates that will be submitted as formal quotes for customer requests. Coordinate estimating activity across all functions including purchasing, quality, operations and management.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Prepare cost estimates used by management to support preparing bids, assessing lead times and determining cost effectiveness and make/buy analysis
  • Display awareness of cutting-edge and competitive manufacturing processes as a Precision Machined Parts Estimator to support both Job Shop and Production environment
  • Make recommendations to improve manufacturing process
  • Track variances between estimated cost and actual cost to effectively evaluate the adequacy and accuracy of the utilized estimating parameters

Review customer quotes requests to ensure all required information is received to make an accurate quote.

oRead and interpret customer requests

oRead and interpret customer blueprints and parts lists

oAssure complete customer engineering data packages are available during quote

oEvaluate customer models against drawings as required to assist with quoting effort

  • Create Bill of materials (BOM’s), material list and outside services needed for customer quotes and send out RFQs for required raw materials and services.
  • Research and determine the most cost effective sources for raw materials and outside service while meeting customer
  • Advanced Excel skills to create a detailed estimate of materials, manufacturing process, time, and costs associated with each customer quote. Ability to transfer documentation to an ERP system.
  • May review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering, quality or availability of materials.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong listening skills.
  • Works well under pressure in fast paced environment.
  • Support manufacturing engineering function on an “as required” basis in support of business needs

Perform other duties and specific projects as assigned.

  • Responsible for quote machining, weldments, finishing and fabrications

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Work experience

            o5-10 years related professional experience in manufacturing environment in a similar role;

  • Demonstrated experience in accurately constructing manufacturing plans and estimating time required to perform the manufacturing operations with knowledge of CNC machines, set up times, run times, fabrication and assembly

Experience and knowledge of metals and manufacturing processes in similar industries

Demonstrated ability to review blueprints, visualize the product in detail, create a mental picture of the manufacturing methods and steps required to produce the item, and estimate time required to prepare and perform each process

  • Job specific attributes/skills
  • Machine Shop and Fabrication Shop Estimating Experience Required.
  • Computer knowledge – Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, Project, Job Estimating software

Well organized with strong analytical and reasoning abilities

  • Ability to communicate with all levels inside and outside the organization. Must be able to successfully interact with all internal departments to fully understand needs for an accurate estimate/quote. Must be able to deal with Customers in a professional manner.
  • Experience working with high performance teams
